A Quick Getaway
One belongs to New York instantly, one belongs to it as much in five minutes as in five years.
- Thomas Wolfe
Growing up in an area of Connecticut better known as a Manhattan suburb than a city in another state, this quote about New York made my smile. It’s true: No matter how long you’ve been in New York – if you’re there and you want to be there, you just belong. Just like that. Not that you’re fooling anyone with your lack of city savvy – New Yorkers can spot a tourist or newbie from a mile away [it's pretty obvious you're not a New Yorker when you actually wait for the walk symbol to appear before crossing the street]. It’s just that, despite your experience, you’re there and therefore are immediately an inextricable part of the whole. And no one really cares how you got there. It’s sort of like yoga, really: At first it’s crazy, confusing, you’re not sure what street to take – what style to practice, what path to pursue – but you know you want to be there “doing” yoga. So you do it: You hop on a mat and there you are. Just like that. Welcome to NYC yoga! Some of us are rude and speak languages you’ve never heard of and some of us will knock you over, but for the most part we’ll all flow through this practice two centimeters away from each other and we’ll manage to not kick one another in the face – sans spitting, sans cursing. We’ll all get along [sort of].
That said, guess who’s going to NYC tonight?
[Me, me!]
The Big Guy is pretty excited to eat lots of pizza and gigantic sandwiches. I, on the other hand, just want to do yoga in the city and find a good juice bar. And, I’d like to get eyelash extensions – is that a weird combination of desires? [Yes, very weird. Who wants eyelash extensions?]. Anyway, should come back with some fun stuff to share.
See y’all on Monday!

wooo wooo! have FUN!!
